Meals D
Day 2 - Uglich
A traditional Russian welcome ceremony of
bread and salt begins your walking tour of this
lovely Golden Ring town, founded in the 10th
century. Visit the imposing Church of St.
Demitrius of the Blood, built on the site where
Ivan the Terrible’s son Dimitry was
assassinated. Meals B,L,D
Day 3 - Yaroslavl
You’ll be delighted by the captivating
beauty of one of Russia’s oldest cities with
lovingly preserved churches from the 13th to
17th centuries. In the Savior Transfiguration
Monastery, the murals of St. John’s apocalyptic
visions are moving and your visit to the 17th
century Church of St. Elijah includes amazing
frescoes painted by renowned Russian artists.
Before returning to ship, browse through a local
market to experience a bit of daily life along
the Volga. Meals B,L,D
Day 4 - Goritzy
Sail across the scenic White Lake, once
known as the “Czar’s Fishing Grounds”, to the
charming village of Goritzy for a visit to the
famous Kirill-Belozersky Monastery, founded in
1397 by the hermit, Saint Cyril. Your guided
tour includes the monastery’s small wooden
chapels, museum and the superb medieval frescoes
of the Cathedral of the Assumption. Later, your
ship continues its voyage toward Lake Onega.
Meals B,L,D
Day 5 - Kizhi Island
Cruise Lake Onega, Europe’s second largest
lake, to Kizhi Island for a walking tour of the
Open Air Museum of Architecture, with stellar
examples of traditional Russian wooden
structures, including windmills, houses and
churches. Most impressive is the 300-year-old
Church of the Transfiguration, an onion-domed
fantasy with 22 cupolas hand-built with chisels
and axes and without a single nail. Meals B,L,D
Day 6 - Svir River & Mondraga
View a rugged and majestic landscape of the
Svir River with timber rafts and log piles
dotting the river banks. Call on Mondraga, a
reconstructed village built on the shore of the
Svir to illustrate the traditions and lifestyle
of Russia's past. This delightful stop allows
you to visit the wooden homes and see many
craftsmen making local ceramics, lace and
popular matrioshkas (nesting dolls), and to
enjoy a traditional Russian barbecue lunch.
Day 7 - Valaam Archipelago
The history of the Valaam archipelago in
Lake Ladoga stretches back more than a thousand
years. Visit one of these historic islands and
tour the Monastery of the Transfiguration of the
Savior, set against a spectacular backdrop of
granite ledges and mountains. The monastery’s
choir will perform an inspiring concert before
you set sail for St. Petersburg. Meals B,L,D
Day 8 - St. Petersburg / Disembarkation
Arrive today in the city of Peter the Great,
founded over 300 years ago in a picturesque
region of islands and waterways along the shores
of the Gulf of Finland. Your cruise program ends
