Day
1 - Strasbourg / Embarkation
Arrive in Strasbourg and board your
luxurious Peter Deilmann river vessel.
MV Heidelberg - Meals D
Day 2 - Karlsruhe
Founded in 1715, Karlsruhe, located in the
heart of the Hardtwald forest, was once the
primary residence of the Baden grand dukes. This
morning’s escorted excursion will reveal a rich
legacy of wealth, power and scholarship in this
vibrant university town. You’ll see the Baden
State Theater and stroll through the beautiful
Market Square to see the Karlsruhe Palace.
Before returning to ship, you’ll ascend Turmberg
Hill for a scenic view of the city. Meals B,L,D
Day 3 - Mannheim / Heidelberg Excursion /
Worms
This morning’s excursion begins with
Heidelberg Castle. Nearly destroyed by the
French in 1690, it remains one of the most
splendid castle ruins in Germany, with
breathtaking views over the Neckar River and
city below. After touring the castle, a walking
tour through Heidelberg’s historic Old Town
includes the unusual Karl-Theodor Bridge, with
its twin-tower gates and the 15th century
Heiliggeist Church. Back on the ship, enjoy
lunch as you cruise to ancient Worms where an
escorted tour will show you the 12th century
Imperial Cathedral, a stellar example of
Romanesque architecture. Meals B,L,D
Day 4 - Rüdesheim / Lorelei Rock
Your ship docks this morning in the
beautiful village of Rüdesheim, known for its
excellent wines. You can step ashore to explore
at your own pace – perhaps stopping for a glass
of wine at a local cafe. In the afternoon, your
cruise continues along the Rhine past the famed
Lorelei rock where – according to legend – a
siren bewitched the hearts of sailors with her
enchanting song. Meals B,L,D
Day 5 - Koblenz
Sightseeing in this historic city begins at
the imposing Ehrenbreitstein Fortress, the
largest fortified castle in Germany. From its
strategic hilltop location, you’ll have
magnificent views of the Rhine and Moselle
Rivers. An in-depth walking tour of Old Koblenz
includes Jesuit Square, graced by a lovely
fountain, and the Romanesque Church of our Lady.
You’ll stroll through Florinsmarkt Square, home
to the city’s landmark – the “Eye-Rolling Robber
Knight”. Meals B,L,D
Day 6 - Cochem
Today you arrive in one of the prettiest
towns of the Moselle Valley. A walk through
Cochem’s winding cobblestone alleys reveals
charming Moselle-Franconian half-timbered homes.
Then ascend above the city by motorcoach to
explore the Reichsburg – a majestic castle with
numerous fairy-tale towers and turrets, and
rooms filled with Neo-Gothic furniture. You’ll
also enjoy great views over the city and winding
river valley. Meals B,L,D
Day 7 - Bernkastel / Trier
Surrounded by lush vineyards, lovely
Bernkastel is renowned for its excellent wines
and wonderfully preserved half-timbered homes.
Your walking tour through the medieval city
center showcases the wonderful architecture and
the resplendent Renaissance City Hall. Of course
you’ll enjoy some leisure time to sample some of
the local vintages. Late this afternoon, the
ship arrives in Trier, Germany’s oldest city –
renowned for its ancient Roman buildings and
monuments, including the Porta Negra, the only
surviving fortified gate of the Roman period.
Meals B,L,D
Day 8 - Trier / Disembarkation
You disembark this morning in Trier. Meals B |
