Itinerary

Day 1  Sat USA - Venice
Depart on your overnight flight to Venice.

Day 2  Sun Venice
On arrival, transfer to your beautiful floating hotel, docked in the main port of Venice. Enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure. This evening, meet your fellow travelers at a welcome onboard dinner.

Day 3  Mon Venice - Occhiobello
Venice, the city of lagoons, is built on 118 islands - and hundreds of years of history. Your walking tour begins with the Palazzo Ducale, a worldfamous example of Gothic architecture. While there, climb the famous Scala dei Giganti, admire the paintings of Tintoretto and Veronese, and wander through the Great Council Chamber. Then visit Basilica San Marco, a wonderful blend of Eastern and Western architectural styles and one of the world's most beautiful buildings. Return to the ship in Venice and then cruise across the Venetian Lagoon, past the fishing island of Pellestrina and Chioggia, through the delta of the River Po and up the river to overnight in Occhiobello.

Day 4  Tue Mantua - San Benedetto
Today, discover Mantua. Aldous Huxley called Mantua "the most romantic city in the world," and it is no wonder: it is a wellpreserved, medieval jewel. Mantua was once home to the extravagant Gonzaga family, one of the Renaissance's foremost dynasties. Visit the Palazzo Ducale, the Gonzaga's incredible palace. Stroll through its gardens, and beautiful rooms filled with art. Also see the 14th-century Castello di San Giorgio, and admire the celebrated Camera degli Sposi with frescoes by Mantegna. Later, walk through the "Piazza delle Erbe", the animated heart of the Old Town and enjoy some leisure time before returning to your ship.

Day 5  Wed Verona
Verona is the romantic setting for Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Everywhere you turn, you will feel the spirit of this famous tale. Visit San Zeno Church, perhaps the finest Romanesque building in Italy. See Castel Vecchio, an impressive 14th-century fortress, and the Roman Theater. Walk to nearby Juliet's House and view the famous balcony. In the wide Piazza Bra you will view Arena di Verona, the huge amphitheatre built by the Romans in the 1st century A.D. Spend some free time at leisure in the Old Town before dinner at a local restaurant. On select departures the Opera di Verona is available to you as an optional tour.

Day 6  Thu Bologna
This morning visit Bologna, the famous university town. During the city tour you will see the Fontana del Nettuno, the 12th-century Town Hall, the Church of San Petronio, the Palazzo de Re Enzo and you will also visit a violin maker. Enjoy some free time to shop before returning to the ship. Late this afternoon, you will cruise down the Po River to overnight in the town of Taglio di Po.

Day 7  Fri Taglio di Po - Venice
This morning cruise back across the Venetian Lagoon to arrive in Venice. After lunch onboard, enjoy a free afternoon at leisure to explore beautiful Venice. Visit the art galleries, shops and churches, or perhaps take a vaporetto water bus to Murano or Burano. Murano is famous for its glass blowing traditions, while the cheerful fishing village of Burano is known for its brightly colored houses and lacemaking traditions. Tonight, join the Captain's Farewell Dinner onboard your ship.

Day 8  Sat Venice
This morning, visit Padua, an ancient university town where historic figures such as Dante and Galileo have passed through. Wander along the scenic Prato della Valle and visit the magnificent 13th-century Basilica di Sant'Antonio with its beautiful frescoes, sculptures and tomb of St. Anthony.

Day 9  Sun Venice - USA
Your wonderful and memorable journey along the Po comes to an end. It is time to transfer to the airport for your flight home, or extend your trip with more time in Venice.
