Day 1, Wed. BOARD YOUR OVERNIGHT TRANSPACIFIC
FLIGHT.
Day 2, Thu. ARRIVE HO CHI MINH CITY, VIETNAM.
Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to
your hotel. This evening is free.
Day 3, Fri. HO CHI MINH CITY.
Your full day tour visits the main sites. See
Notre Dame Cathedral, the Jade Emperor Pagoda,
the Opera House, Reunification Palace, and the
War Remnants Museum. Then head out to the Cu Chi
Tunnels, an important base during the Vietnam
War. Your evening is free. (B,L)
Day 4, Sat. HO CHI MINH CITY / EMBARK CRUISE.
Travel to My Tho, the hub of the Mekong Delta,
and board your river ship. This afternoon, moor
near Cai Be and make a trip by traditional junk
to Vinh Long and Tien Giang. Explore the local
islands and visit An Kiet House, the former
mandarin’s residence, where the surviving
members of the Kiet family welcome you. Return
to your ship, visiting the boatyards of Dong Hoa
Hiep Island on the way. (B,L,D)
Day 5, Sun. CAI BE / CHAU DOC.
Begin the day with a visit to the floating
market of Cai Be. There is also time to see the
French Gothic Cathedral and the port area with
its colonial buildings and pretty gardens. Watch
the local merchants make coconut candy and rice
paper. This afternoon, continue cruising up the
Mekong to Chau Doc. (B,L,D)
Day 6, Mon. CHAU DOC / CRUISING.
By local ferry, travel down the canals and
backwaters of the main Mekong Channel to a Cham
tribal village. Take a rickshaw ride through the
village and visit a catfish farm. This
afternoon, continue cruising and cross the
border into Cambodia. (B,L,D)
Day 7, Tue. PHNOM PENH.
Spend most of the day in Cambodia’s capital, a
city whose French colonial past is still much in
evidence. See many of the Wats (temples), the
most spectacular being the Silver Pagoda located
at the Royal Palace. Another highlight is the
National Museum, with its outstanding display of
Khmer crafts. This afternoon, you can continue
exploring the city on your own or take an
excursion to the Killing Fields and the Khmer
Rouge detention center. Tonight, you may want to
dine ashore (additional expense) and try out one
of the capital’s many restaurants and local
watering holes. (B,L,D)
Day 8, Wed. PHNOM PENH / KAMPONG CHAM.
Your first port of call this morning is Chong
Koh, a little known silk weaving village. Then
continue upstream with an afternoon stop at the
town of Peam Chi Kang to visit its monastery and
school. (B,L,D)
Day 9, Thu. KAMPONG CHAM AREA.
Enjoy a morning journey upriver to the hilltop
8th century Wat Hanchey. This afternoon, travel
by coach to the 12th-century Angkorian temple of
Wat Nokor. Also visit the twin holy mountains of
Phnom Pros (Men’s) and Phnom Srei (Women’s)
Hills with their ornate temples and gates. (B,L,D)
Day 10, Fri. TONLE RIVER / KAMPONG CHHNANG.
This morning enter the waters of the Tonle
River. Relax on deck as the ship winds its way
through the jungle and the river narrows. Upon
arrival in the city of Kampong Chhnang, explore
this busy rural port and its bustling markets.
Later board a launch for an excursion to seek
out the array of birdlife and to watch the local
fishermen in their little boats. (B,L,D)
Day 11, Sat. TONLE LAKE / SIEM REAP.
Board a hydrofoil and cross Tonle Lake. Later
this afternoon, meet your private guide for a
walking tour of the mesmerizing temples of
Angkor Wat. (B)
Day 12, Sun. ANGKOR WAT EXCURSION.
Visit Angkor Thom, the walled Royal City.
Continue on for a stop at Ta Prohm on the drive
back to Siem Reap, where your evening is free. (B,L)
Day 13, Mon. SIEM REAP / BANGKOK.
Transfer for your flight to Bangkok. On arrival,
a tour takes you to some of the magnificent
temples here, including the Marble Temple. (B)
Day 14, Tue. BANGKOK.
A free day for independent sightseeing. Choose
from an array of optional excursions. (These
tours should be arranged at the time of booking)
