Nuremberg is an archetypal German Medieval city, and your tour takes you past the mighty ancient walls with 80 towers that enclose the historic city center. You'll stop at the Medieval Kaiserburg Castle, and then walk through the lively old quarter with its well-preserved traditional half-timbered houses. And you'll have plenty of time to enjoy the festive atmosphere of Nuremberg's Christkindlesmarkt with its 200 wooden stalls filled with distinctive gifts and seasonal treats, such as Nuremberg's world-famous gingerbread. (BB, L, Captain's Welcome Dinner)

Day 4: Bamberg
Featured Excursion: Bamberg Nativity Walk and Christmas Market
An architectural gem boasting Renaissance palaces, Baroque houses, and a breathtaking cathedral, Bamberg is one of Germany's most beautiful cities, and it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage city. During the holidays, Bamberg continues its centuries-old tradition with Nativity Scenes stationed throughout the city. Your Bamberg Nativity Walk takes you past many of these beautiful displays. Next, visit the Christmas Market, with its local crafts, smoked sausages, gingerbread, and Rauchbier- Bamberg's famous smoked beer. (BB, L, D)

Germany's “Romantic Road” leads to charming villages, towns, and cities between the Main River and the Alps; today, you'll travel along parts of the “Romantic Road” to Rothenburg. An ancient walled city perched high in the hills, Rothenburg is celebrated for its well-preserved Medieval buildings and its unspoiled setting. Discover this fairytale gem on your guided walking tour. Browse one of Germany's oldest and most celebrated Christmas Markets which is set amid buildings that date back to the Middle Ages. (BB, D)
