Day 1 - DEPART USA
Overnight flight.
Day 2 - ARRIVE CAIRO
Welcome to Egypt - a mystical and timeless land, where ancient and modern live side by side. You are met at the airport and transferred to your elegant and sophisticated Cairo hotel.
Hotel: Conrad
Day 3 - CAIRO SIGHTSEEING
Meet your Tour Director for a detailed pre-tour briefing then proceed to the Great Pyramids at Giza and their guardian Sphinx! Your guided tour includes entry into one of the Pyramids. Nearby lies Memphis, famous capital of ancient Egypt. See the colossal statue of Ramses II and the great Alabaster Sphinx. Continue to Sakkara, to see the Step Pyramid of King Zoser, the oldest in the world. Return to Giza as night falls to attend a magical Sound and Light Show at the world famous Pyramids. (BB)
Day 4 - CAIRO - LUXOR
Transfer to the airport for your flight south to Luxor, and check into your famous hotel. Originally built in 1886 to attract the nobility of Europe, it has been home to Howard Carter, Jane Fonda, King Farouk as well as many other crown princes and princesses. The afternoon is at leisure.
Hotel: Old Winter Palace.(BB)
Day 5 - LUXOR - CRUISING
This morning is devoted to Karnak, the largest temple complex ever built by man, constructed over a time period of 1500 years. Walk through the avenue of Ram-headed sphinxes, past the statue of Rameses II, to stand in awe among the huge columns of the vast Hypostyle Hall. At lunch time board your luxury cruise ship, one of the most stylish and spacious in Egypt. Journey down river to overnight on-board at Dendara.
Ship: MS Tosca. (BB,L,D)
Days 6 & 7 - ABOARD THE RIVER TOSCA
Over these six glorious days you are our guests aboard the River Tosca. Relax in luxury as you voyage along the Nile, lined by a green ribbon of fertile land, with the arid desert beyond. The river continues to play a vital role in everyday life. In scenes that have changed little for centuries, the locals swim, bathe, work and play along its shores, while water-buffalo graze in nearby fields.
During your time on board you will experience the wonderful sightseeing and excursions as follows: visits to the temple complexes at Dendara, Edfu and Kom Ombo, plus a visit to the famous Luxor Temple. There are two excursions by sightseeing coach; the West Bank at Luxor which includes a photo stop at the Colossi of Memnon, a visit to the temple of Queen Hatshepsut and entry into three of the Pharaohs' tombs in the Valley of the Kings. In Aswan your excursion includes a motorboat to the temple complex on the island of Philae, visits to the High Dam and unfinished obelisk in the granite quarries, plus a sail in a traditional felucca around Aswan's botanic gardens.
While cruising you will be offered the opportunity of an optional excursion by air to visit the fabulous temples of Abu Simbel. Breakfast lunch and dinner are included daily while on board, plus one Highlight Dinner and Galabea Party.
Day 8 -
The Kom Ombo Temple is a beautiful sight as you approach it from the river. It’s uniquely dedicated to both Horus the Elder and Sobek the Crocodile headed god, which is verified by the mummified crocodile remains on display. Now relax and enjoy a visual feast as you cruise along the Nile to Aswan. Take a motorboat across the Nile to the extraordinarily preserved temple complex of Isis on the island of Philae. Visit the High Dam and see the unfinished obelisk still attached to the bedrock in the granite quarries. Complete your day by sailing in a traditional felucca around Aswan’s botanic gardens. This evening, don your galabeas (traditional Egyptian attire), for a fun-filled Egyptian Dinner and Galabea Party. (BB,L,HD)
Days 9, 10 & 11 -
Explore Aswan at your own pace today. Don’t miss the opportunity to join the optional excursion by air to Abu Simbel to view the fabulous temples carved out of the cliffside by Rameses II and later transported, in an amazing feat of modern engineering, out of the rising waters of Lake Nasser. (BB,L,D)
Day 12 - LUXOR - CAIRO
Disembark after breakfast and transfer to the airport for your flight back to your stylish hotel in Cairo, where you are at leisure. Perhaps take an optional excursion to visit the Coptic Museums and hanging church?
Hotel: Conrad (BB)
Day 13 - CAIRO SIGHTSEEING
Prepare yourself for a highlight visit to the Egyptian Museum to stare in amazement at the priceless treasures recovered from the tomb of Tutankhamun. Later, enjoy fine views over the city from the Citadel of Salah El Din before visiting the alabaster Mosque of Mohammed Ali, with its highly ornate interior. The rest of the day is at leisure. (BB)
Day 14 - RETURN TO USA
The tour ends with transfers to Cairo Airport. (BB)
